Biopiracy is the illegal appropriation of life -- microorganisms, plants and
animals (including humans) -- and the traditional cultural knowledge that
accompanies it.
Biopiracy is illegal because, in violation of international conventions and
(where these exist) corresponding domestic laws, it does not recognize,
respect or adequately compensate the rightful owners of the life forms
appropriated or the traditional knowledge related to their propagation, use
and commercial benefit. Biopiracy commonly operates through the application
of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) (primarily patents) to genetic
resources and traditional knowledge.

1)Developing energy efficient technologies-simple examples energy efficient
technologies would be use of energy efficient chulhas instead of traditional
chulha, converting animal dung, crop residue and sewage to produce biogas, use
of energy rates lighting systems for homes and streets. 2)reducing
wastage-we can reduce wastage of energy by reducing losses during
transmission and distribution of power, replacing modern distribution
transformers, reducing wastage of energy by proper maintenance of appliances.

Many a times big tankers carrying oil get damaged or wrecked in the
mid-oceans.before remedial measures are taken, oil in large quantities leaks
into the sea water.oil being lighter, spreads over surface of the sea over a
large area.this stop the supply of oxygen in the sea water.further, oil clogs
the gills and respiratory organs of other aquatic animals.for miles
together, the sea water becomes unsuitable for the sea animals.birds feeding
on fishes, when dive in the water to catch the fish, also get their wings
drenched in oil.these birds die in hordes.thus entire marine ecosystem gets
drenched.
