   The climatic significance of the Himalayas is that :  
   
   (i) The Himalayan mountains prevent the bitter cold winds from Central Asia
   from entering into India. 
   
   
   (ii) The Himalayan mountains bring about orographic rainfall as the monsoon
   winds get intercepted

   Due to intensive leaching , laterite soils lack in fertility but respond
   well to manuring and irrigation and hence Laterite soil is unsuitable for
   the cultivation of crops. This soil is found in peninsular india in states
   such like karnataka,TN,kerala etc.

   Regur soil or black soil is formed by the weathering and disintegration of
   cooled and solidified lava rock.Parental rocks are gneisses	and are bases
   formed in-situ. The four important properties of regur soil are : 
   
   (i) The colour of black soil varies from black in colour to chestnut brown
   in colour.
   
   
   (ii) It has a deep clayey texture. 
   
   
   (iii) It is a moisture retentive soil and keeps the the moisture in it for
   many days.
   
   
   (iv) It is also called self ploughing soil as it forms cracks and becomes
   areated  when dry.

   reasons are as follows:
   
   1. pak is a sandy n a dry region
   
   
   2. it receives very less rainfall. it does not fall under the influence of
   the s. w monsoon winds from the bay of bengal branch. it receives offshore
   winds from the arabian sea branch
