see
children today have become so engrossed in virtual world is not wholly true.
not only the Childers but also the adult. Kids today have challenges they
face that are similar to those teenagers in the 1980's.
Similar but different. Peer pressure is still the biggest challenge everyone
faces. The idea of
experimenting on things like alcohol, drugs, and sex has not disappeared and
undoubtedly
will remain to be part of the scene. In the early 80's one may have had
unprotected sex and
perhaps at the worst case scenario, had to find a cure for genital warts.
Genital warts may
have been an unsightly rite of passage then but these days, having
unprotected sex with
countless partners is a deadly risk. The contraction of HIV is a clear and
present danger that
if abstinence cannot be prevented, then the use of protective measures like
a condom is the
wise choice. Anything else may have fatal consequences. The presence of
alcohol and
underage drinking is still there. Tougher laws against Driving under the
Influence or DUI
under sanction of a conviction and a permanent record have perhaps minimized
teen alcohol
drinking and driving but it is impossible to eliminate that situation. Is it
working? In some
states like California, it has and this is a good sign. A life saved is
worth every dollar spent.
It is also that this teenage society is growing up when information is
easily accessed. They
have all the tools and skill sets available to learn about Information
Technology and
Computers. The prevalence of computer games have added new skills to this
generation and
even new professions as there are a rise of professional online gamers whose
occupation is
to compete in national and international contests which feature teams of
gamers competing
in several types of computer games, head to head, against other teams as
well. It is beneficial
to the computer game industry and the computer industry as well. These days,
the games are
becoming so realistic and filled with graphics that are not just rich and
almost real. I agree with that today's world is to hostile for children. I
think the media today has a
harmful and negative effect on children. It teaches children negative
behaviors like violence,
sex, drugs, and swearing. Children then think its okay for them to do those
things because
they see famous people on TV doing them and think its "cool" for them to do
it. They see
video games promoting violence and theft, like Call of Duty and Grand Theft
Auto.
Parents need to monitor what there children do and what they watch more
closely. Children
need to spend more time playing outside and less time watching TV and
playing video
games. Instead of playing outside with their friends children today would
rather isolate
themselves to the television screen. When children spend more time than what
they should
watching TV it cuts down on imagination and creativity. Children should be
wanting to use
their imagination more and drawing and thinking of new ideas.
Television promotes materialism through all the commercials they have,
children then see
those things and want them. They see the latest sneakers or the new Call of
Duty game and
want, want, want. When parents go to the grocery store with their children
they see all the
junk food that was on TV and want that. Parents need to start saying no more
often to all
those advertisements on TV.
They're are some good positive things to television, and good educational
games. They're are
tons of computer games and video games that help kids learn in different
ways than just the
traditional school method. Some TV shows teach kids important concepts to
life and etc. like,
Sesame Street, Dora The Explorer and Barney & Friends. Barney has a unique
approach to
teaching children like using dances, and sing-a-long songs. Dora the
Explorer teaches kids
some spanish words which is very educational and could be something that
their parents cant
teach them.thus everything is good within limit, excess use of anything is
harmful. Posted at: Fri Feb 8 20:57:01 2013 (GMT)
