   the white ice which covers the oceang reflects the sunlight which falls on
   it. however when the ice melts due to increse in temperature, the dark ocean
   is exposed to light which leads to further rise in temperature in turn
   leading to further melting of the ice. this leads to floods. this
   phenonmenon is called as ice albedo feedback mechanism
