- Sift together the first three ingredients into a bowl.
- Beat the butter, sugar, golden syrup and vanilla extract with an electric beater or a wooden spoon in another bowl till smooth and creamy. Gradually add the eggs one at a time beating well after each addition.
- Fold in the sifted flour with a large metal spoon gently. Stir in the oats and chocolate chips. Add milk little by little (only if required) to get a batter of soft dropping consistency. Drop heaped spoonfuls of batter leaving some gap between each one onto a cookie sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 4 minutes or till the cookie is half-done and soft in the center.
- Place a maraschino cherry halve carefully in the centre of each cookie and press lightly. Bake for about 4 minutes or until browned. Let cool. Store in an airtight container.
