Although the refugee was given both a copper coin and a silver coin, he
bought only a small bowl of noodles which costed him only the copper. The
seller of noodles could not understand this action of the refugee as
although the refugee was very hungry....
.......and had enough money he did not eat any noodles . The refugee
complained that the others of the community did not care and since they
were all hungry they ate up all the seeds and did not leave any seeds to be
sown in the field. The others of the community do not think of the future
whereas the old wan aways thought of the future.

the community is that the others do not think of the future whereas the old
man always thought of the future.

The author brings out the aspect of chinese life by showing how much the
people depend on agriculture. The title is appropriate as the old man and his
people were refugees to the town as nobody in the town knew the people who
had entered and the people wandered in the town without knowing were to go.

earlier in this scene cassius had seen some army approaching toward the hill
. being suspicious of whether the army was friend or enemy he entrusted
titinius to ride on cassius`s horse, dig the spurs deep within him, go to
the place where the army was approaching and see whether it was friend or
enemy and bring back the report to cassius as soon as possible.

cassius feels responsible for titinius`s death an takes an important decison
. he ultimately decides to kill himself . therefore , he entrusts pindarus
with the work of holding the hilts of the dagger which was used to kill
caesar , so that he can run the sword into his body. he comands pindarus to
do so reminding him that he was captured in the battle of parthia and there
he had taken an oath to be loyal to cassius .cassius tells him that this was
the last command that he gives to pindarus after which he would free
pindarus from all the slavery .

after climbing high up on the hill pindarus reports cassius that titinius
has been enclosed by horsemen on all sides . he is trying to escape them
by digging his spurs deep in and moving away from them as fast as possible
but they continue to follow him . finally he has been taken by the horsemen
and there are shouts of acclamation and rejoice indicating that he has
been taken as a prisoner . he falls into a guilty mood because he considers
himself to be the cause of titinius condition , as he was the one who had
ordered him to go upto the place where the enemies were aaproaching and send
him news.he was wrong on blaming himself because it was pindarus who had
misjudged the entire situation giving him misinterpreted information of
titinius defeat.

titiniusimmediately following this extract performs two noble gestures .
one was he presents cassius with the garland that was sent by brutus
indicating his victory over octavius and crowns him with the garland . and
secondly "by the leave of the gods" he with the same sword that was used to
kill caesar , and with which noble cassius killed himelf , titinius runs the
sword into his body.

at the end of the scene brutus gives orders of sending cassius` body to
thasos ,his birth place where he will be given a grand funeral after the
battle is over .

he says this because he feels that it is not "mete" that casssius` body
should be here in the camps because the battle was still on and people might
get distracted . and also that he owes more tears to their bodies because of
the love and affection that he beared for him and titinius and that they
were very honest and loyal to their country till the end and that rome shall
never be able to give birth to such honorable men as cassius and titinius.

the narrator wishes to discontinue his work because he feels that now by
working the entire day he has overtired himself . and also because he feels
the essence of winter sleep circulating in the air along with the scent of
the apples which therefore makes him lazy and forces him to discontinue his
work.
from the begining of the day the narrator has been engaged in the activity
of aple picking . he can recollect how he was standing for continuous long
hours on the ladder which now wa showing results when his insteps had
started paining. he remembers how the ladder used to sway to and fro when he
used to pull the branches close to him to pick apples . he also recollects
the sounds of apples being loaded in in containers from the cellar bin.
